After his internship in Leipzig, he became the first associate professor of physical chemistry at a Czech university. After seven years, he moved to Brno University of Technology in 1912, where he became professor of electrochemistry, served twice as rector and founded the Institute of Theoretical and Physical Chemistry. He contributed to Otto's dictionary, participated in the modification of Czech chemical nomenclature and authored many textbooks and technical papers.
