During the First World War he fought on the Russian and Italian fronts, in 1918 he joined the Czechoslovak army. At the same time he studied several semesters of business science at the Prague Technical University. From 1925 to 1927 he studied at the War College in Prague, where he became a professor in 1931. During the occupation he served as chief of staff of the Defence of the Nation Command. He was arrested by the Gestapo in March 1941 and shot in Ruzyně in October 1941 during the first martial law. In 1946 he was promoted in memoriam to colonel.
