Knight Bartoň of Dobenín came from a family of textile entrepreneurs from Náchod. He graduated from the Higher School of Economics and Industry in Tábor and the University of Halle. After graduation he became a co-owner of the family business, in 1899 a member of the board of directors of the Czech Bank and mayor of Náchod. In 1910 he bought the devastated Zbraslav monastery, had it rebuilt by architect Dušan Jurkovič and in 1939 he lent it to the National Gallery for the long term.
